I was starting a new post earlier today when I realized, through the magic of ADD and procrastination, that my Facebook needed a little tuning.
So I took on the task of updating my information, some useful facts like how I have a job now, and how my relationship status has gone from single to really fucking single.
And then I figured I needed a cover picture, and perhaps changing my usual profile picture to an actual picture of myself, instead of that cartoon I made of me three years ago, so I opened up Photoshop and looked at the canvas, trying to come up with something that was quirky but not completely random.
I started by melting down the Facebook header. I copied the blue color of the top nav bar and started drawing lines downwards, as if it was paint falling down. I also didn’t want it to be a rectangle like most other cover photos, so I started merging the colors from the sides and the bottom into the picture.
Since I wanted to actually show my face for once, I started browsing any available pictures of me on Facebook (because I don’t make it a habit to have pictures of myself). When I found one that was cool, I started merging it into a cartoon version of the background.
But now I had all this cartoon space and nothing to draw on it. I started writing names of bands I like and decided that it looked pretty damn cool, so I just kept going until most of it had been covered.
However, now I was out of space to draw something. I had to figure out where to make a drawing because otherwise the cartoon background made no sense.
I first thought of drawing a cartoon me behind me, spooking me or something. Eventually, though, I reached that eureka moment, and after this long explanation which is just an excuse to why I didn’t write a better post today, I show you the final result of my evening:
